Waterstone Mortgage Executive Spotlight: Elizabeth Spragg, Chief People and Administrative Officer

January 02, 2022

Learn more about Waterstone Mortgage’s Chief People and Administrative Officer.

Meet Elizabeth, our Chief People and Administrative Officer.

Elizabeth joined the Waterstone Mortgage team as SVP - Human Resources in January of 2020 – an interesting time to dive into a new position in a new industry, to say the least.

Not only did the coronavirus pandemic hit shortly thereafter, but the mortgage industry has also experienced record levels of business this year, creating a whirlwind of activity in our human resources department.

In January 2022, Elizabeth was promoted to Chief People and Administrative Officer.

In her new role, Elizabeth oversees our organizational growth and strategic planning, in addition to professional growth and development for our employees. She thrives in a fast-paced environment and prides herself on her ability to adapt to change – two qualities that are not only essential to the human resources field, but the mortgage industry as well.

Elizabeth has 20+ years of experience in human resources. Prior to her time at Waterstone Mortgage, Elizabeth worked as an HR professional in a variety of industries such as technology, food service, and most recently asset management (which shares a similar sales-based culture, providing a natural segue into the sales-based culture we foster here at Waterstone Mortgage). She has also been recognized for her excellence in the human resources field by winning the Milwaukee Business Journal’s 2020 HR Award.

At the end of the day, it’s all about “people” for Elizabeth. Her ability to read people and connect with them to provide the solution they’re seeking is second-to-none, making her an invaluable member of our team.

Q&A with Elizabeth

Q: What advice would you give your younger self or someone just trying to break into the business?

A: “This is advice I got my father… be nice to everyone, because you don’t know who might be your boss someday. People are important, the relationships you build are important, and how you treat people is important – no matter who you are.”

Q: What is your favorite part of working at Waterstone Mortgage?

A: “My favorite part of working at Waterstone is the people. Every interaction I’ve had I have truly enjoyed. Working with people who care so much about the business and the individuals and families who are trying to buy homes – that’s been an amazing experience and an amazing journey to be part of.”
